The choice to have a first look or wait until you walk down the aisle is a very personal decision. Some photographers try to encourage a bride and groom to do a first look, because the bride and groom portrait session and wedding party portraits, don’t have be quite as rushed.
My belief is this is your day and you know yourselves and what you want to do. My job as your photographer is to capture the day regardless of your desire. To me, this decision is as much as a personal choice as choosing your wedding dress. I am not here to encourage or discourage. Read on for some pros and cons of each to help with your decision. I am your wedding partner and photographer that is what I am here for, I am here for you. I will work with you to develop a time line for either choice that allows me to capture all of the images of the day for you to relive the story, day after day, every time you look at your portraits.
A first look is when a couple sees each other on their wedding day before the ceremony. It is a private time between the bride and groom, with no spectators, except for your photographer, who is there to remain quiet and capture the moment and raw emotion.
Your photographer will have a location picked out, away from everyone else. The groom is placed with his back toward where the bride will be. Your photographer will tell the bride where to be and instruct the groom to turn around when the bride is ready. This is the first moment he lays on you and your photographer is in the background capturing this quietly and candidly letting you have a few moments to yourself.
Afterward, while in the same location, we move into your bride and groom portrait session. Additionally, we slide the rest of bridal party in and get the portraits of the entire wedding party done at this time.
Most importantly don’t allow others to heavily influence you. While I agree it is probably something to be mindful of regarding your parents being there or absent for this, but this is your day, and you are in charge. Truly no one else knows how you feel. Just think of the different scenarios and go with your gut! I GOT YOU!
Your wedding day will be the biggest day of your life, second to only the day your children are born. Treasure these moments! The entire day that you have put so much into planning is gone in a matter of hours. At the end of the day, the food is gone, the dress is put away, the party is over. The images we create are the only thing that is left to treasure those memories for decades to come. Trust your day to be captured by a professional photographer who will also work with you in a professional manner to give you the lasting images and albums from your wedding that will be passed down for generations to come. Trust Petersen Photography, LLC to capture your day picture perfectly!
Happy Planning!
